The Sony PVM-1380 is a 13-inch NTSC Trinitron professional video monitor. Sony's operating instructions describe it as using a "New black-tinted Trinitron picture tube which absorbs most ambient light and improves picture contrast remarkably", together with a New PanFocus gun for sharp focus across the whole screen.[1]
The tube is 13 inches measured diagonally with 90-degree deflection and a coarse 0.6 mm aperture grille pitch, giving a resolution of 250 TV lines at a fixed 9,300 K colour temperature.[1] Horizontal linearity is ±8% and vertical linearity ±10%, with a line pull range of ±500 Hz horizontally and −8 Hz vertically and zooming of less than 5%. Input return loss is better than 35 dB at 4 MHz.[1]
Features
This is a simple composite-only monitor with no RGB, component or Y/C capability. Two groups of loop-through connectors, LINE A and LINE B, each take composite video on a BNC and audio on a phono jack; a front-panel LINE A/B button selects between them, with indicators showing which is live.[1] An 8-pin VTR connector carries video and audio from a VCR on a single cable and is wired in parallel with LINE B, so the two must not be used at the same time.[1]
Rather than automatic termination, each line has a manual 75-ohm termination switch — set to ON when the VIDEO OUT connector is unused and OFF for a loop-through connection. Up to ten monitors can be daisy-chained this way, with only the last one terminated.[1]
Front-panel controls are conventional rotary types: HUE, COLOR, BRIGHT and a PICTURE control that adjusts contrast, colour intensity and brightness together in the proper ratio, plus a sliding VOLUME control and an earphone jack for private listening.[1] Audio output to the internal speaker is rated at 1 W.[1]
