Description

The Sony UVW-1700 is a Betacam SP single-frame recorder from the UVW budget series, specifically designed for recording computer-generated graphics frame by frame to tape. This makes it suitable for film-resolution animation recording, titling, and graphics-to-tape transfer applications.

The UVW-1700 records on metal particle tape in the Betacam SP format and plays back both metal particle (SP) and oxide (original Betacam) cassettes. It accepts both L-size (90+ minutes) and S-size (30+ minutes) cassettes and provides two longitudinal audio channels with Dolby C noise reduction.

Video connectivity is comprehensive for its class, with switchable RGB/component inputs and outputs (3× BNC, configurable as Y/R-Y/B-Y or RGB with sync on green), S-Video (Mini-DIN-4), and composite (BNC). An RGB sync input allows external composite sync when operating in RGB mode. A dedicated sync output provides composite sync without burst for downstream equipment.

The UVW-1700 features both RS-422 9-pin and RS-232C 25-pin serial interfaces, plus a stereo mini jack remote output, allowing integration with computer graphics workstations and edit controllers. A built-in TBC with digital dropout compensation ensures stable output.
