Sony VP-7040
Description
The Sony VP-7040 is a U-matic Lo Band player classified as a "Type 7" unit. It plays back PAL, SECAM, and NTSC 4.43 colour tapes with 250-line colour horizontal resolution and a video signal-to-noise ratio better than 45dB. Note that the VP-7040 plays NTSC 4.43 (a PAL-region conversion format) but does not support native NTSC 3.58 playback — this is primarily a PAL-market machine, though a 100–120V variant was available for some export markets.
Like its sibling the VP-7030, the VP-7040 incorporates Frame Code for absolute addressing and supports sophisticated programming functions including random access and programmable repeated playback. The unit supports RS-232C connection via an optional BKU-701 Computer Interface Board for external computer control, and an optional BKU-702 interface for 33-pin parallel remote control. The VP-7040 supports automatic start/stop with AC on/off timers and can be controlled via an optional RM-770 infrared remote, making it well suited for interactive kiosk and point-of-information applications.
