The '''Sony PVM-2030''' is a 20-inch NTSC Trinitron professional video monitor, the smaller of a pair with the 25-inch PVM-2530; the two share a single operating manual and differ only in tube size and audio power.<ref name="oi">Sony PVM-2030/PVM-2530 Operating Instructions, Sony Corporation. https://archive.org/details/sony_PVM-2030_2530_Operation_Instructions</ref> US and Canadian sets carry chassis number SCC-A85A-A.<ref name="sm">Sony PVM-2030 Service Manual (First Edition), Sony Corporation. https://archive.org/details/sony-pvm-2030-service-manual-first-edition</ref> Its original list price was around $1,125.<ref name="crtdb">[https://crtdatabase.com/crts/sony/sony-pvm-2030 Sony PVM-2030], CRT Database.</ref>

The picture tube is a fine-pitch Trinitron (Sony part [[A51JKQ10X]]) with an approximately 50.6 cm visible diagonal, 100-degree deflection and a 0.55 mm aperture grille pitch. Sony rated it at 560 TV lines from the video inputs and 640 × 200 dots — about 2,000 characters — from the RGB input, with a 9300 K colour temperature and a video bandwidth of 6 MHz (−3 dB) on composite and 10 MHz on RGB.<ref name="oi" /> The line pull range is ±500 Hz horizontally and −8 Hz vertically, so the set is a fixed-frequency 15 kHz monitor rather than a multisync.<ref name="oi" />

== Features ==

The monitor's headline feature is its '''CMPTR''' input, a 25-pin [[DB-25]] "multi connector" that accepts either analog or digital RGB from a microcomputer.<ref name="oi" /> Mode pins on the connector select between analog RGB (0.7 Vp-p, or 1 Vp-p with sync on green) and TTL-level digital RGB, and separately between IBM-style RGBI signalling and 3-bit TTL. Horizontal and vertical sync arrive on separate pins, but the horizontal pin also accepts composite sync. A blanking pin lets a composite source from LINE A/B or the VTR connector be superimposed over the computer picture.<ref name="oi" />

Sony also fitted the set with New Dynamic Color, which raises the apparent colour temperature without turning skin tones unnatural by controlling RGB amplitude, and a Colorpure comb filter to suppress cross-colour on composite sources.<ref name="oi" />

CONTROL S IN and OUT connectors allow several monitors and a VTR to be driven from a single RM-739 Remote Commander, which was supplied with the monitor. Rear-panel REMOTE CONTROL and MANUAL CONTROL switches independently enable or lock out the remote and the front-panel touch controls.<ref name="oi" /><ref name="sm" />

There is no built-in loudspeaker. Rear SPEAKER L/R terminals drive external 8–16 Ω speakers at 7 W + 7 W; Sony offered the SS-X6A and APM-X5A speaker systems and the SU-539 and SU-541 stands as options.<ref name="oi" /> A switched AC OUT socket supplies up to 100 W at 120 V for a connected computer.<ref name="oi" />

Not every production run received the S VIDEO connector, so an individual PVM-2030 may have only composite and RGB inputs.<ref name="crtdb" />
