The Sony KD-30XS955 is a 30" widescreen Hi-Scan FD Trinitron WEGA television released by Sony in 2004. It features Sony's Super Fine Pitch (SFP) Trinitron tube, which provides significantly improved picture detail compared to standard FD Trinitron models. The set includes a built-in ATSC tuner for off-air digital broadcasts and a CableCARD slot (PCMCIA Type I/II) for digital cable service without a set-top box.<ref>Sony KD-30XS955/KD-34XS955/KD-36XS955 Operating Instructions, p. 103-104</ref>

== Features ==
The SFP tube provides brighter images with improved edge detail for both moving and still images, eliminating visible vertical lines present in earlier Trinitron designs. The set also features Digital Reality Creation (DRC) MultiFunction circuitry for upconverting standard-definition signals, CineMotion Reverse 3:2 pulldown for film-based content, and ClearEdge VM wideband velocity modulation.

The KD-30XS955 was Sony's first television to offer Enhanced Memory Stick media playback, supporting JPEG photos, MPEG1 video clips, and MP3 audio from a built-in Memory Stick slot.<ref>Crutchfield product listing, https://www.crutchfield.com/p_158KD30XS9/Sony-KD-30XS955.html</ref>

Audio output is provided by a pair of 7.5W stereo speakers with a 15W subwoofer, along with SRS TruSurround simulated surround sound, Steady Sound automatic volume control, and BBE sound enhancement. A digital audio optical output (Dolby Digital/PCM compatible) is available for connection to an external audio system.

== HDPT and Input Lag ==
By default, this TV introduces input lag at all input resolutions due to its digital video processing pipeline. However, on early production units, setting "HDPT" to 0 in the service menu bypasses the digital scaling circuitry for 1080i and 540p signals, resulting in zero input lag at those resolutions.

In mid-2005, Sony made a major revision to the DA-4 chassis. This revision replaced the digital video processing board with a new "one-chip" DRC/MID IC design, which eliminated the circuitry responsible for the HDPT bypass. Only early serial number units support lag-free operation.<ref>ConsoleMods Wiki, CRT:KD-30XS955, https://consolemods.org/wiki/CRT:KD-30XS955</ref>
