Simple machine-to-machine editing was possible between a BVW-10 or BVW-15 player and the BVW-40 using a single RS-422 serial cable, without requiring a separate edit controller. The deck also supports full RS-422 9-pin serial and 36-pin parallel control interfaces for integration into larger editing systems.&lt;br /&gt;

Though the BVW-40 was eventually superseded by the Betacam SP edit recorders (BVW-70 and BVW-75), it remained in service at many facilities well into the 1990s due to its reliability and the large installed base of oxide Betacam tape.&lt;br /&gt;
